Edison’s genius lay in his ability to conceive a fully developed marketplace, not simply a discrete device. Edison’s approach was an early example of what is now called “design thinking”. The myth of creative genius is resilient: they believe that great ideas pops fully formed out of brilliant minds. Sometimes the trigger for a project is leadership’s recognition of a serious change in business fortunes. Many of the world’s most successful brands create breakthrough ideas that are inspired by a deep understanding of consumer’s lives and use the principles of design to innovate and build value.
